Tejasvi Surya Carries Ganges Water During Kanwar Yatra From Haridwar to Rishikesh
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya joined the 2026 Kanwar Yatra from Haridwar to Rishikesh carrying sacred Ganges water. His participation drew praise from supporters and questions from critics amid the massive annual pilgrimage.
Surya shared that participating in the Kanwar Yatra had been a cherished goal for him after observing devotees taking part in the pilgrimage for the past three to four years. He joined the yatra as devotees travelled long distances as part of the religious tradition.
Supporters of Tejasvi Surya’s participation described the move as an expression of devotion and said it sent a strong message against critics of Hindu traditions. However, some questioned whether his participation reflected traditional barefoot penance or appeared more like a staged political event.
The 2026 Kanwar Yatra is being held from July 30 to August 11 and has drawn massive crowds of devotees. Authorities implemented traffic restrictions and bans on key highways to manage the large number of pilgrims participating in the annual religious journey.
Surya’s participation in the pilgrimage has brought renewed attention to the Kanwar Yatra, which continues to witness large-scale participation during the Shravan period as devotees carry Ganges water to Shiva temples across the country.
